My Work Cut Out For Me

I'm on vacation this week, and decided to make good use of the time working in the garden. Tuesday morning, after the holiday, Loudoun Mills showed up with my order for 12 cubic yards of mulch. When the dump truck arrived, I was quite excited. I watched as the truck backed into the driveway and began to dump the mulch. As I looked into the bed of the truck, I saw a neat little pile of mulch and thought, "Hey, that's not so much mulch. This won't take any effort at all!"

That's when I noticed that the dump truck had a two-chambered bed, separated by a flapping door in the middle. As the second door opened up, an equivalently sized "neat little pile" dumped out onto my driveway.

"Wow, that's a lot of mulch!" I thought.

Twelve yards may seem like a lot, but it's actually down from years past [1] [2]. I do have a lot of beds around the house, and I want to give them all a good weeding and layer of mulch before winter sets in. Everything should be nice and spruced up before autumn.

Here's a photo of the mulch, with a glamorous model provided to give a sense of scale. Twelve cubic yards of mulch is still A LOT OF MULCH!
