Dad and I Visit the War Monuments

Dad and I ventured down to DC today, despite the horribly cold, windy and rainy day. We were hoping that the inclement weather would deter most of the other tourists, and it seems like that was a good plan.

I wanted to show Dad all the monuments around the reflecting pool: the Korean War Memorial, the Lincoln Monument, the Vietnam War Memorial, the World War II Memorial, and the very forgotten World War I Memorial.

Our favorite monument was the World War II Memorial. It's hard to believe that this monument stirred up so much controversy before it was built. A lot of people didn't want it built where it is, but I have to say it is one really beautiful monument for a very important chapter in history. I only wish my grandparents had been able to see it. They would have really enjoyed walking through that monument.

So, after a couple of hours of walking and taking in the sights, we headed back to Fairfax to warm up with some spicy Thai food before heading back home for the afternoon.
