Diamond Head and Kauai

This morning, we arose early and headed over to Diamond Head, for an exhilarating one mile hike up about 500 vertical feet, to the top of the old volcano cone.  From there, we had terrific views of Waikiki and the surrounding area of Honolulu.  Diamond Head State Park is a former military base and network of bunkers.  Once at the top, you can explore a few of these bunkers overlooking the sea.

Later in the day, we headed to the airport for our flight to Kauai.  The flight is a very pleasant 30 minute jump, and afforded some amazing views of the island.

Tomorrow is Christmas Day in Hawaii.  We'll open presents in the morning, and then later in the day, we're going to roast a chicken and do an old-school traditional Christmas dinner, complete with pumpkin pie, stuffing, potatoes, and all the rest.  We'll actually cook this in our condo, so we should have that home-style feel to a vacation Christmas.

Mele Kalikimaka to you all!

This first bunch of photos is from Diamond Head on Oahu:

Check out another panorama here, this one of the crater on Diamond Head.  Click on the photo to view it in large size.

The next set of photos are our plane ride from Oahu to Kauai:
