Vases of Flowers

We have big bunches of peonies, enough for a vase full and still twenty or more in the garden.

Also, my favorite rose, Evelyn, is blooming now. It smells twenty times better even than it looks.

Your peonies are pretty, but I absolutely love the Evelyn roses. What variety are they??

Mom,

The Evelyn (which I bought as the first rose ever from Grandpa’s gift certificates) is an old English rose. The blooms are about as big as peony blossoms... huge. This rose is the one that is used for making the Evelyn perfume by Crabtree and Evelyn. It smells just the same.

I also like the fact that it shares Grandma Guier’s name, and I feel like it is now planted in her honor, with a nod to Grandpa as the chief roser of the family.
