So Proud Today

It's real. It's happened. And nothing got in the way of this perfect day.

I'm so proud today, so proud to be a part of this historic day. President Barack Obama. Gosh, it sure sounds good saying that!

Ironically, I spent the day deep in "red" country, at a government contracting firm in Dallas, Texas. It doesn't get any "redder" than Dallas, especially at a government contractor. It was particularly difficult watching the inauguration speech in the company break room while hearing all the snide comments and gnashing of teeth behind me. I chose to ignore that as best I could.

I thought Aretha Franklin looked amazing and sounded superb. Michelle was radiant and beautiful. The Obama girls even seemed giddy with all the attention. The quartet that included Yo Yo Ma and Itzak Perlman was wonderful--you could see the joy in their eyes as they played for the President-Elect. I loved that the piece composed by John Williams included variations on the Shaker hymn used by Aaron Copland in Appalachian Spring. It doesn't get more American than that! And though President Obama and Chief Justice Roberts fumbled the first lines of the oath, the majesty of the moment overwhelmed me.

I only wish I could have been in D.C. to be part of the event myself. It was a wonderful day!

God Bless our President! God Bless the U.S.A.
