Announcing... the King of Swing!

Driving back from breakfast this morning, the boys made me stop at a yard sale in the neighborhood. The little old lady running the sale had a used clarinet for sale for $25. Now, I need a clarinet like I need a hole in the head, but $25 is actually a really good price for a used clarinet.

What's more, I actually know how to play one. Or at least I did when I was twelve. Of course, the only song I played well was Suicide is Painless. Ironic, huh? Death by clarinet. I'm sure my mother could commiserate, after suffering my years of practice.

Yet, the boys were enthusiastic about the possibilities.

Eddie chirruped, "Mom can sing, and I can play piano, and Luke can play guitar, and DAD can play the clarinet!!"

A regular Osmond family we'll be. "Rockin' on the clarinet, it's DAD!"

Luke then said, "Dad, you'll be the King of Swing, like Benny Goodman!"

Whaaaaaa?! Luke knows Benny Goodman? You have got to be kidding me!

So I bought it. I am now the proud owner of a decent used clarinet. I figure I will try to relearn it (for the amusement of my boys). Maybe I can take it to Ireland and join in with the pub bands. And if that fails, I can always throw it on Craig's List.
